Euler Piruleta Vs. Einstevil

It's been quite a hectic job, but we have finally managed to complete Sierpinski's Triangle! :D

We'll find out how it looks like on the wall ^_^ Thanks for all your help!

YOU'VE MADE IT POSSIBLE!

After such a long and deserved break, Euler Piruleta has to face once again tremendous forces of evil.

This time, Euler Piruleta has been kidnapped by Einstevil and he has been sent to the space in a rocket provided with an Ultra-Bizantium Sonic Engine which allows it to fly at speeds close to the speed of light.

Euler only knows the formula below to deal with this situation:

$\huge{Av = 0,3 t + A}$

- Let A be the age before leaving Earth
- Let Av be theage at any time
- Let t be the number of years that have passed

So time does not pass at the same speed when you are surfing the space close to the speed of light. You must notice the difference between a year on Earth and a year in the rocket.

Notice that we're in the year 2013 and that Euler is 20 years old and he has left a newborn child on Earth. Help Euler to solve these riddles:

a) How old will Euler be by the year 2023? And by the year 2020?
b) When will Euler be 25 years old? Try to calculate the year he'll get that old.
c) How old will Euler Piruleta's son by the time he turns 30 in the rocket?
d) Can a son become older than his own father?? o_O

Deadline: Friday the 26th of April (e-mail or handwritten version)

Printable vesion available here!

Don't miss this hilarious video I have been introduced to today by Ivan, Guzman and Angel XD Woudn't you like to know how do animals eat?...

PS: Tania and Jorge have been awarded with 2 positives due to the Sierpinski Challenges, and Sara and Iñaki with 1 positive each for solving the Bill's Challenge!

Euler Piruleta Vs. The Fuel's Bill + Exam Results

We're moving faster now! :D

Don't forget to review the sequences for the exam ;) It is possible to download here the solutions to last "Thursday test", so you can check those exercises.

Euler Piruleta is learning Nordic Skiing. Yesterday, he went with some friends to Abodi and in the return journey, the five people in the same car were thinking about how to divide among them the fuel’s bill. They have decided to proceed as follows:

The owner of the car has to pay half the money the rest will pay.

Or what is the same…

The four people who are travelling with the owner of the car have to pay twice what the owner will have to pay.

The fuel’s bill ascends to 56.88, so Euler has to solve these three problems:

a)     How much money will the owner have to pay?

b)     How much money will the rest of the 4 accompanies will have to pay?

c)      Find an equation that will help you to solve directly similar situations for a group of n people (this is, 1 driver and n-1 non-drivers) and for any amount of money M.

Deadline: Monday the 8th of April. As usual, you can either send me and e-mail or hand in the solution at class ;) The printable version is also available!

Have a nice Easter Week!!!

PS: REMEMBER YOU HAVE UNTIL JUNE TO CREATE YOUR OWN VIDEOCLIPS WITH SONGS ABOUT THE SECOND ORDER EQUATION'S FORMULA! :D
- Those videos should feature yourselves singing the song like in a real videoclip.
- It would be great if you also manage to include the lyrics ;)

Iñigo (aka Mr. Corn) has requested to upload this """""WONDERFUL""""" song...

Isaba's News

How are you doing? The weather is better than expected and we've been able to skii the 3 days so far :D

Eduardo has told me that (most of) you have done an incredible job with the Triangle Sessions! Congratulations!! I'M VERY PROUD OF YOU! ^_^

Here are the solutions to the extra worksheet. Remember that these are exercises for reviewing what you have already studied, so don't worry if you don't manage to do all of them ;)

Best regards!! Seeing you soon!

Euler Piruleta Vs. Gloomy Boy

What an intense week we've had... :P

Here are some of the great moments we had building the first T-9's.

Click here to download all the pictures at once!

Now everything has been settled and prepared for the next week. Remember that it's vital to glue them with care and thoroughly. Take your time, we're not in a hurry and do the tasks you feel more confortable with :D

Furthermore, I'm afraid this week has also been quite intense for our beloved Euler Piruleta. Gloomy Boy has threatened him with a long life of gloom, darkness and sadness, unless he manages to solve an ancient mystery: The Damned Triangle!!

First Question: Would you be able to write the next arrow? How do we move from one arrow to the next one?

Second Question: Calculate the addition of all the terms for each arrow. Can you tell the value of the addition of the numbers in the 20th arrow without calculating the arrow? Is it possible to write those numbers as a sequence?

Third Question: Complete the triangle to the 15th arrow and then, colour those numbers which are even... which is the amazing figure you get?

Watch it!: This is 2nd term's last challenge. You may get 1 or 2 extra positives depending on the accuracy of your answers. You can mail them to me with the answers, drawings and anything you think you should include or take it handwritten to my deske at the Department of Mathematics.

Deadline: March the 10th. Printable version here!

Now it's time to relax whilst listening to a lovely and beatiful song ^_^

The Radio Dept. - "Strange Things Will Happen"

Oi!!! And don't forget to download this forthcoming summer's greatest hit!!

PS: Sergio, Iñaki G, Jorge, Tania, Ivan and Carlos have been awarded with the "Where is the father" positive. Iñaki A, Ivan, Angel, Raquel, Carlos, Jorge, Iñaki G, Juan, Daniel and Tania have been awarded with the "Impossible Path" positive. Congrats! :D

Euler Piruleta Vs. Tartufo

Tartufo has many non-admirable qualities… he is not only a ruffian and a cheater, but also a words-twister and ruthless person. Even more, he uses his domain of cult language to seduce both naïve men and women to be his lovers.

But don’t worry! Euler Piruleta has proven not to be a naïve person… pffiuuu! Anyway, Tartufo has used a Rajoy-Merkel software to hack into Euler Piruleta’s bank account and has stolen every single euro from it. He would only return the money if our hero manages to solve this simple-in-appearance problem.

A woman is 21 years elder than her son. In 6 years, the mother’s age will be five times his son’s.
Question: where is the woman’s boyfriend?

You have many algebra skills but Euler has none… help him to solve this tricky challenge! Don’t be daunted by the solution, it may seem wrong, but if you think carefully about its possible interpretation, you may be able to answer the question!

CLUES:

1)     Don’t forget that in 6 years, both the woman and the son will be 6 years older

2)     Remember that we are working with YEARS, so the solutions are expressed in YEARS. This means that you may have to interpret/translate one of the solutions to get the answer to the question… where is the women’s boyfriend?

As usual, send me your solutions by e-mail, and explain briefly how did you get to that result. Deadline: February the 17th. There's also a printable version.

As I promised, you can download now the solutions to the "Extra Exercises"!!

Euler Piruleta Vs. Charlie's Chocolate Hell

Euler helper’s are decreasing in number and effort!! He is quite worried about that! What would happen to him without your help? Don’t procrastinate and try to help him this time... or the terrible Galician Non-Living may strike back!!

Evil Charlie has built a fortress with 20 rooms connected by the paths shown in the picture. Each path has a different brand of chocolates which will be poisoned if Euler doesn’t manage to solve this challenge. He must pass through every room only once using the paths shown in the picture. Not only he can’t use twice the same path, but he also has to finish in the same room he started….

Remember….
-          You have to manage to pass through every room (point)
-          You can’t use the same path twice (although you don’t need to use all of them)
-          It is vital to finish in the same room you started.

You have until next Friday to solve this peculiar puzzle. Send in your solutions (which, of course, can be created using wonderful paint) or handwritten. As usual, there's a printable version!

Extra information!!
- Iñaki G, Carlos and Andrea are the only ones who sent the solutions and, therefore, they deserve an extra positive :D
- The solutions to the first set of exercises of the extra bulletin are already available!
- Remember you can mail me any doubt you might have when you try to solve them ;)
